IKEA kitchen units

I’ve fitted quite a few kitchens and I always tell people who are buying units to be aware that ones made by IKEA don’t generally have a gap behind them for services.

This seems not to be well-known or communicated on the web, but with water pipes, gas pipes, possible cabling and general stuff to accommodate out off sight it is so useful to have a couple of inches (50mm) behind the false back of the base units.

It is also commonplace in units from most of the other manufacturers/suppliers I’ve ever come across.

Taking off a radiator

Dear UK Guild of Handymen,

I wondered if you could advise the best way to take off a radiator in order to decorate behind?

Alternatively, say whether this is strictly necessary.

Many thanks

Drilling floor tiles

I’ve been doing up my bathroom and I can’t seem to drill the floor tiles to screw down the toilet. I’ve got a proper tile drill but it doesn’t want to know. Any ideas?
