OCD and the ‘catch 22′

I think the quality of my work is pretty good because I have lots of positive reviews and hardly ever have a dissatisfied customer.
Recently, I was asked to quote on some minor work in a beautiful house where the owner admitted to being ‘very particular’ and whose husband was apparently worse still.
To be honest the work scarcely needed doing so it posed a dilemma.
In quoting this work I would have felt the need to add extra time, possibly even allow double the time (and cost) I would have normally quoted because:
a) I would need to spend vastly more time than normal to ensure absolute perfection.
b) I would need to allow further time for the client to inspect the level of perfection achieved and agree satisfaction.
c) I would need to allow for the possibility of redoing all or part of the work either at the time or later especially since it would need to also be scrutinised by the husband.
And then because effectively the price is now much higher than normal, the client would reasonably expect an even higher level of perfection than normal so even the tiniest imperfection could result in starting again.
When I say the work involved ‘piping’ a bead of silicone or possibly polysulphide I think any trader would recognise the issue since the most practised and experienced of professionals can still ‘cock this up’ on some days.
I don’t relish doing jobs for people with OCD with having recently worked for a disabled woman who watched me work and insisted I wash my hands three times during the simple replacement of a curtain pole and the hanging some new curtains which were only from Dunelm Mill.
While I love a challenge I have decided not to quote for this woman.
Who needs the stress?
Also I think if she is ‘so particular’ that everyone else does likewise she will either have do the work herself or start be more realistic …which might start to rid her of her obsessive nature.
